As the economy seems to be going South, unemployment increases and people's disposable income is cut, how does this impact on driving schools? Anecdotal evidence seems to indicate that instructors are getting fewer phone enquiries and so fewer pupils. Generally it takes a while for these things to work their way through.
What's for sure though is that the never ending supply of people wanting to train to become an Instructor will not dry up. In fact, at times of recession and high unemployment, the instructor training sector hits boom time. Hard earned redundancy payments get spent on training courses promoted through misleading tv advertisements.
Can you earn £30,000pa?
How does the regular Instructor tough it out during times of recession?
1. Don't cut back on advertising. You need those customers!
2. Find new ways of advertising and promoting your business. Offer to do stuff with the local schools, if you haven't got a website invest in one
3. Find ways of saving money that won't hurt your business - would it be cheaper to wash your car by hand, than pay out at the car wash each week?
4. Invest in further training
5. Don't cut prices - it's a slippery slope. Prices are already low.
